Coming Soon

Coming soon to theaters are works from family-friendly Disney, horror master Wes Craven, and Warner Brothers; such an eclectic group with well advertised films. So, are you in the mood for a creepy horror film, a warm-hearted film inspired by life events, or a drama with tints of comedy? Whichever you pick you are bound to experience indulging cinema.

Life as We Know It is the Warner Brothers film that will be opening this week. This movie however, has some critics speculating about the premise and uniqueness of this movie. And this is probably because the film does seem to take on a vibe from other movies with the same subject matter: children being left to the most unlikely people after a tragedy. However, this film achieves what others don’t; an authentic and perspective look into what sometimes happens in particular families. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel star as Holly and Eric; two single, mutual friends who are brought together when they are chosen to parent their former friends little girl. We follow these two as they take on the role of caregivers, learn from their mistakes, and work hard at making the best home possible with what little knowledge they have. This film is a dramatic comedy that will have you crying one moment and laughing the next. A heart-warming and powerful movie ready to remind us all that there is no ‘right way’ to raise a child; after all, parenting does not come with a handbook.

Also opening this week is the Disney film Secretariat; a “based on true events” movie which takes place in 1973. Secretariat is an inspirational film, and when it comes to inspiration there is no better story teller than Disney Studios. Disney has the unique ability to repeatedly bring stories, fiction and non, to life in a bold and captivating way, and this one is no different. In this film Diane Lane stars as Penny Chenery, a housewife and mother who must suddenly take over her sick fathers Meadow Stables in Virginia. The problem is though, that she has absolutely no experience at all in horses or racing. She pulls through the struggles though and enlists trainer Lucien Laurin, played by John Malcovich, to help get the business back on track. Through hard work and perseverance, she is able to nurture Secretariat’s Triple Crown win; the first in 25 years. This Disney film is the ultimate “feel good movie” and will leave you happy and exhilarated.

Another movie releasing this weekend, but with a completely different tone, is the Wes Craven horror film My Soul to Take. This thriller takes place in Riverton, a small town that’s home to a terrible serial killer who was supposedly left for dead many years ago. However, the psychotic killer has promised to return and kill all seven children who were born on that fateful night. Therefore, when people start disappearing again after 16 years there is much fear that the traumatic killings will resume, and only one who has the ability to stop this rampage is Adam Heller, played by Max Thieriot. Adam is the link to this evil serial killer and has suffered horrible nightmares since he was a baby. The lives of his friends are in his hands; will he be able to save them? This movie is frightening and chilling, the true features of a Wes Craven horror film, sure to send tingles down your spine.

These three films are your ticket to a good time. Whether you want a good scare, a tender yet emotional drama, or an inspiring and motivational story, you can find what you are looking for in these selections. Your ticket is only a box-office away.
